Books Essential for the Creation of this Site
The Webmaster's Bookshelf
I got much of the information about these places from the following four books. Information about John Lee Hooker came from Boogie Man: The Adventures of John Lee Hooker in the American Twentieth Century by Charles Shaar Murray. Paradise Valley Days by the Detroit Black Writers Guild and Toast of the Town : The Life and Times of Sunny Wilson by Sunny Wilson and John Cohassey contain much interesting historical information, and lots of "slice of life" rememberances. Before Motown : A History of Jazz in Detroit by Lars Bjorn and Jim Gallert is both fascinating and thourough, covering Paradise Valley, John R, the 12th street district and more.
