. . . but by the time you came to visit this site, the painting will probably be painted

There is a tremendous turnover of paintings. Lowell Boileau, the author of
The Fabulous Ruins of Detroit , visited these tunnels sometime in the last year
or so, and I did not find any of the paintings he photographed. I have another friend,
Julie Meitz, who photographed the whole thing 8 years ago. Imagine what it would
be like if someone photographed the progression of pictures. Given the transient nature
of the art, it is sort of like jazz, the droplets of paint hanging in the air a moment before it disappears.
