Spray Can Jazz. . .
Remember this track runs right behind where Henry's Swing Club
was. John Lee Hooker sang about Hastings Street and the the Swing Club in
his 1948 hit "Boogie Chillen".
With the main artery of the black experience cut out of the city
in 1959 --when Hastings Street was overlaid with I-75--,
culture already fleeing because of the end of segregation, sputtered.
Music died, art went underground.
Spray Can Jazz.
