| When President Eisenhower signed the Highway Act of 1956, Black America did not realize that this would put an expressway right through their community. It was called "Urban Renewal": tear down the older sections of the city and lay expressway over them. Black communities in Detroit, Cleveland, and Chicago amoung others, were condemned and sent packing. | |||
