Hastings St. Tour

A panoramic picture of the corner where at 3530 Hastings Joe Von Battle's Record store used to be. In the 50's this was the center of the Blues scene in Detroit. Joe recorded albums in his back room. When urban renewal in the late 1950's destroyed his building, he relocated to Twelfth Street.

Bluesman Eddie Burns says that Joe could practically just open his door and wave the talent in . He funnelled choice cuts to Chess Records. Barry Gordy recorded his first Motown records here, before he had a studio of his own. John Lee Hooker recorded here. Detroit Harp phenom Little Sonny recorded here in 1958.
