In 1926 and 1927 Bix Beiderbecke was a member of the Greystone's house band, the Jean Goldkette Orchestra. He liked his bottle, and kept it behind a loose brick in the Greystone Gardens.

The Internet Public Library has pictures of the Greystone in its prime. Detroit had many other ballrooms too.
