Run your mouse over the picture to see how it used to look. 700 East Forest. The streetcar conductor would shout 'Sunny's Corner', when the street car stopped here. Jake's Bar was across the street.
Although Forest no longer goes through here, you can look across the expressway and still see Forest over there. The historical picture is from the jacket of "The Toast of the Town" by Sunny Wilson and John Cohassey.

Sunny Wilson said in his autobiography said that by the time the Detroit count made it to the Forest Club, he would be pretty drunk. He would visit all the bars along Hastings, playing until he got to the Forest Club. He could spin out "Hastings Street Opera" for an hour. Sometimes they had to kick him off the piano.

"Onliest bar, you have to walk in, you get ready to buy a bottle of beer, you have to walk a mile after you get in the joint to get it. 'Cross the street, jake's Bar, he got all the trade Sonny don't want."
