Paradise Valley

The Koppin Theatre (1919 - 1931) was at 528 Gatiot , between St. Antoine and Beaubien. The Frank Murphy Hall of Justice stands there now.

The Koppin was managed by E. B. Dudley, who had played cornet and violin for W.C. Handy in Memphis. It was part of the black vaudville circuit in the 20's, featuring musicians, comedians, and show girls. It was because of vaudville that it was so important musically to the black community.
